Getting her XRAYS done 
Alexis scoliosis journey!
I wanted to share a little bit info about what is going on. It is very confusing and hard to understand it all. This all started when we found Scoliosis January 12th 2011. Thanks to Dr. Joan Burrow. My chiropractor. I had asked her to look at Alexis' back. I didn't have any reason just felt we needed to do that. She didn't want it looked at but I insisted! Thank God!
So after quite a journey in finding out & learning about Scoliosis. We were referred to Shriner's Children's Hospital in Spokane, WA.
They did XRAYS and we found out Alexis has Double Curves and the Thoracic Curve is reversed. Meaning Curving to the left. When this happens, there is usually another underlying problem. So we are trying to get MRI done so this will tell us more. Tuesday February 8th, we attempted to get MRI done. They did get a little bit scanned but not enough.
We have a new appointment scheduled for February 18th for 10:30am (9am check in).
They will be putting little Alexis to sleep so this will be done in the Pediatric Surgery Unit.
Left Thoracic Scoliosis
- Discussion:
- left thoracic curvatures are uncommon (1-2% of curves)
- associatted conditions: (33 % of patients)
- occult syrinx;
- treatment of the scoliosis without recognition of syringomyelia and
Chiari malformation can lead to paraplegia;
- Arnold-Chiari
- spinal cord tumor;
- neuromuscular disorder;
- MRI is usually indicated;

This is the one that you can see the scoliosis is mild but there...her head is sitting nicely at this time on her spine but in the recent one's it is totally tilted on her spin!
As you can also see, her head is not sitting on her spinal cord correctly. It is tilted and slightly off to the side.
The "Lower XRAY" of Alexis is showing the 2nd curve in her spinal cord. It is also showing the spinal cord "Twisting"...like clockwise. Obviously, that is not good! :(
You can look at the XRAY's from 2008 and see that her head was actually sitting on her spine correctly at that time. And now, it is tilting.
We are "anxiously" waiting to get into to see Shriner's Children's Hospital in Spokane, WA!!!
Alexis' Dr. referred her there. Shriner's will only see Children with a 20 degree curve or higher.
Our goal is to keep Alexis' spinal cord degree UNDER 40 degrees!
Unfortunately, she has a lot of growing to do.

In the one where the cursor is pointing to the neck...the Dr. was concerned about the shape of her neck. He said there is no curve in it like a normal neck. Her neck is straight.
Honestly, I don't know what that means. We are still in the learning process of all this!

Tonight, I went to the Chiropractor and just as a thought, I asked if she would look at Alexis' back. She did and almost immediately, she told me that she thought Alexis had Scoliosis.
My first thought was to see if the Chiropractor could "FIX" her back! I was so worried!
We left and I was on the phone calling her dad. We set up an appointment right away in Moscow and Alexis was seen tonight. They confirmed that her back is curved and she has Scoliosis. So they set up an appointment for her to see the specialist on Monday!
Please keep her in your prayers. If I could, I would have this so Alexis can live her life to the BEST!
A couple days before Christmas, Alexis found a little tiny hat outside Safeway! She thought it was one of the "Elf's" hats so she left a special note for Santa and wanted to return the hat to the Elf. Santa had left her a note telling Alexis to keep the hat as a gift!

My sweetie pie and I!!

The results of what super high winds can do....this tree had fallen and as you can see, uprooted it and the cement, & the lawn!~
The tree landed on the house, lots of damage here!!!!!!
This is Alexis' trampoline in our neighbor's yard, hung up on the fence and a tree! We had 85-107 mile per hour winds! 
We have been enjoying the new Walmart in Pullman, mostly that it is nice not having to drive to Moscow.
As you can see, Alexis saw this Christmas tree and the first thing she thought of was to put it on her head!
I am so proud of her. It is exciting during Thanksgiving week when people come up to you and say what a delight it is to be around your child!
So, I am thankful and blessed to have Alexis in my life! I am the luckiest mom! I love you, Alexis!

We went house to house. Alexis had so much candy! And a ton of fun! Happy Halloween
It is kind of a yearly tradition that we have always done.
We usually always go to the mall for trick or treating. But this year with the Halloween being on Sunday, it was more like a weekend affair. So it was the mall on Friday night, and house to house on Sunday night.
Alexis' first time doing house to house this year and she had a BLAST! So, I am guessing that next year, she will want to do the house to house also. She got bigger and better, and more candy!

Adoption Awareness month November 2010
Julie's Adoption story
So, I was told it is National Adoption Awareness month. I never knew they had this.
I don't know if you all knew that I was given up for adoption as a child. I thought I would share a little about my story.
I came to live with the Schultheis' when I was about 3 months old. My parents, Gene & Shirley wanted to have more kids and so they "chose" to adopt a child, lucky for me!
My mother was a social worker. She had kept visiting the Catholic Charities in Spokane and checking out all the babies.
And she was drawn to baby Florence (Me!) She kept coming back to me and hoping she would get me.
They finally told my mom that she needed to leave cause they weren't supposed to get attached to one baby. Back in these days, you didn't get to choose which baby you got.
My mom put in a letter to Catholic Charities to request baby Florence even though this was frowned upon.
So, the day came that they got to find out which baby they were getting and it was a different name. They were sad but they thought that is was God's will.
My parents mentioned about the letter they wrote. And it wasn't even read until this point. They ran into the desk to see if the letter was there.
And then they told the the birth of the baby....it was my birth date. Turns out that they did get baby Florence, ME!
I was told my whole life that I had a little bit of Native American in me. I was proud of this.
When I was 18yrs old, I found my birth mother. Janice, lives in Bellingham, WA. She had a total of 7 children. And I was the first of the 7. She had me at the age of 16.
I had searched for my father from the time I was 18 until I was 30 years old. Finally, the day came that I met my dad and his wonderful wife!
I also found out that both my parents were Native American. In 2002, I became a registered Lummi Indian!
And I am also proud Nooksack Indian.
I am no longer in touch with my mother. There is too much emotional pain there & I don't foresee much of a future for her and I!
However, I am so blessed to have such a wonderful birth father and his wife!
And great parents.
Once I had my child, Alexis. It was the best day of my life. I have felt close with my families but I have never experienced having that special bond with anyone else. And it is so cool that we look so similar!
I feel so complete now.
I love having such a large family! I love my parents, and my birth father, his children and my birth mother's son as well!
So, adoption has been amazing for me. And wonderful.
After marrying my husband last year, he has a son and I am anxiously waiting to meet him and be a mom to him. As his birth mother isn't actively involved with him!
